We began designing and manufacturing for sustainability long before it became fashionable because we recognized that one of the most environmentally responsible things we could do was design products that LAST.
In addition to our highly durable products, Stiles offers decades of proven experience with recycled and recyclable materials, low-VOC finishes, and a diverse range of innovative solutions to help customers meet their own sustainability goals. Our products emphasize steel, stainless steel, and other non-ferrous alloys that offer a long life cycle, high recycled content, and are 100% recyclable. We also haven’t forgotten our own corporate responsibilities and we're constantly refining processes and procedures to minimize environmental impacts.
- Very High Recycled Content
Stiles cold rolled and galvanized steel typically has a 36.9% or greater overall recycled content depending on the product and application.
- Extremely Long Life Cycle
Because steel is so durable, products made from it last much longer than those made from lesser materials. This long life cycle benefits the environment as new material and energy resources will be needed far less often to replace failed products.
- 100% Recyclability
Scrap steel has considerable value, so it isn't discarded and won't end up in a landfill, due to the fact that it is an integral ingredient in the manufacture of new steel.
- Reduced Corrosion Loss and Low Maintenance
Properly fabricated and finished steel surfaces can usually be cleaned with mild detergents and a simple water rinse. Solvents, acids, bleaches, abrasives and other harsh chemicals that could harm the environment are not required. If properly maintained, steel corrosion losses are negligible and the vast majority of the original material will be available for eventual recycling.
- Modern Manufacturing Plants
Today's high-tech mills produce steel in computer-controlled furnaces using recycled scrap as the primary raw material. Manufacturing processes are optimized for the most efficient energy use. Air emissions are filtered and solid particles are processed for metals recovery. Liquid wastes are treated and reused to the maximum extent feasible. Trims and other discarded pieces of steel are collected and returned to the system.
